With the holidays comes abundance, where we often lean towards indulging in tasty temptations (ahem, bacon poutine), leaving the healthy, nutritious items left to spoil in the fridge. This creates food waste, an unnecessary trend, and one that is sure to be included in Canada’s national food policy, introduced later this year. But all is not lost – many of those fruits and veggies that won’t pass the Instagram test will still suffice for dinner. And some expiry dates are meant as suggestions (be sure to sniff first), rather than obligatory rules.
