The University of Guelph's student research and writing program, Students Promoting Awareness of Research Knowledge (SPARK), is embarking on a new research communications collaboration this fall.
SPARK is teaming up with the Ontario Corn Producers' Association to produce a "Research Roundup" section in the Ontario Corn Producer magazine. Student SPARK writers will interview U of G researchers in plant agriculture, food and resource economics and other departments and campuses, contributing news items for each edition of the magazine.
"The ultimate goal of this addition to the magazine is to provide producers with information about research that could influence their management decisions now and in the future,” said Ryan Brown, the association's general manager.
“Even if the research isn’t at its final stages, we think it’s important for our members to know about it, and what’s in the works.”
Owen Roberts, director of Research Communications and the SPARK program, said the student group is looking forward to this partnership. “SPARK students pride themselves in making important science useable and readable,” he said.
"We appreciate the OCPA’s support, and the opportunity to communicate research through the magazine to Ontario corn farmers. SPARK students make career-influencing connections through these kinds of partnerships.”
The first “Research Roundup” will appear in the September/October edition of the magazine.
The SPARK student-writing program is sponsored in part by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
