Canadian horticulture producers rely hugely on seasonal agricultural workers from the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America to help them plant and harvest their fruit and vegetable crops. But these men and women aren’t just labourers; they become friends and family to many farmers who hire them, and vice versa. The Canadian Horticultural Council has produced a series of videos about the ‘temporary foreign workers’ as they are also known, to provide more transparency and to address some public concerns about the quality of the workers’ experience here.
