Trade negotiations between the U.S and Canada had a lot to do with supply management. For poultry, egg and dairy producers, the system is a huge part of farming culture in this country. The new trade agreement isn’t going to change that overnight, but the concessions it gives to American agriculture opens the door. To encourage Canadians to buy Canadian, processors and retailers are going to have to ensure consumers can easily identify home-grown products and know they’re getting top quality.
