In many ways, farmers are particularly vulnerable to mental health problems, being at the mercy of weather and markets that are completely beyond their control. As well, there’s the feeling expressed by some of a growing animosity from society about their impact on animal welfare and the environment. The results have been tragic; farmers are taking their own lives. Ontario dairy farmer Tim May started a campaign called #ILiveBecauseYouFarm to bring attention to this situation and enlist our help to let producers know just how much they’re valued, to try to start turning things around.
