Soybean production is creeping up in the Netherlands. Ontario’s success story with soybeans is experiencing a regrowth – this time in the Netherlands. The Dutch coop Royal Agrifirm began promoting conventional, non-GMO soybeans back in 2013. And just like in Ontario, the crop had humble beginnings with small acreage and a few producers. But acreage is expanding and it’s now being viewed as a valuable rotation crop with positive environmental and economic benefits. Growing pains such as sclerotinia disease aren’t unexpected where production is intense, but progress is being made.
